Thanks for visiting my page, my name is Matthew Scotti and I am a junior here at The College of Charleston. I am a communication here at The College with a minor in English. After graduation I intend to take my talents to law school and further my education. Aside from Charleston, South Carolina, my home is in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey.
For me, where I grew up contributes to who I have become in life. From a young age I was always taught that I am Matthew Alexander Scotti no matter where I go or what I do; do not lose yourself and be true to your morals and values. Personally, I am for the belief that nothing, including success, is given to you. Through perseverance, dedication and hard work success is achieved.
After school I see myself as a journalist or a teacher or English and writing. I have always been proficient at writing and have often heard that it is a dying form in today's society. For that, I always told myself that I would strive to be the best writer I can be, and hopefully follow a career path in the field because I am so comfortable with the process.
As you glance over this page take the time to get to know me and what I stand for, as well as my professional career thus far and my achievements. Above this short bio are links to my references and resume, past work of mine, and my contact info.
Looking forward to the opportunities ahead,
Matthew A. Scotti

Work and Documents
This piece is a paper I wrote last year for one of my communication classes. The paper dealt with concussions and how they are detrimental to players in today’s society. The paper, like my other document, was coupled with a speech. I did a lot of research for this project and was happy with the outcome I received. I think I developed my ideas effectively throughout the paper and used several sources to help support my claim.
This document is about an essay I wrote for a scholarship earlier this year. The scholarship is for college sailors; I sail on the club team here at Charleston. I took a lot of time on this essay to make sure the readers for the scholarship really understood my love for the sport. I have been doing it since I was seven years old and a lot of people don’t really think of it as a sport. I really put a lot of time into this paper, especially paying close attention to descriptive language. I’m really proud of the way I took audience into account when I wrote this piece.
The following link is to a project I worked on last semester too. It was actually for the class Theories of Teaching Writing. All in all, it was a pretty comprehensive project. In short, we were in the position of the teacher. The project consisted of a video we had to make, a reflection, a quasi-handout as if it were for students, and an assignment sheet. This really broadened my horizons as a writer. It forced me to put myself in the shoes of a teacher trying to help students.
I chose this link to a project I worked on earlier this semester. The powerpoint coincided with a speech I gave for around 20 minutes. I discussed incivility and the mediums where it can be found. This was a pretty big deal for me because I had never given a speech more than 12 minutes or so. It was a pretty big weight off my shoulders when I finished it. The presentation was also coupled with roughly a seven page paper also talking about incivility.
This link is to a project I worked on earlier this semester. It is a powerpoint about incivility and the many forms and mediums it can present itself in. I used this powerpoint to aid me in a presentation I gave to my class about this topic. The presentation ran for about twenty minutes, one of the longest presentations I have ever given. After I finished, though, I feel as if my confidence for public speaking has improved drastically. I’m always a little nervous prior to actually getting in front of everyone and speaking, but now that feeling has subsided a little bit. I feel like this project was one of my best all-around works.
This is another link to one of my past projects from this semester. It was for one of my communication classes. We had to conduct research on a topic of our choice and write a paper on our findings. This link represents my spreadsheet holding all of my data. This took me a very long time to compose, but I did well on the project so it was evidently worth it. I really like my organization in this piece. It has helped me in a project I am currently working on for the same class. I put a lot of time into this particular document and was thoroughly pleased with the outcome.
This last document I have chosen to add to my ePortfolio is one that I wrote for one of my English classes last year. The piece was supposed to be a sort of travel essay. So, I wrote about how my family resides in Rhode Island for the summer at our family house. A lot of other people chose places they visited once over the summer, or over spring break. However, I chose a place we only visit in the summer. This place means a whole lot to me, and I feel some of my best writing has stemmed from it as a result. When I write about summer in Rhode Island, the words literally flow off my finger tips.
